Dr. Letisha Scott is an instructor at the Capstone College of Nursing (CCN) in the undergraduate and graduate program. She has taught NUR 324 Fundamentals, NUR 422 Community Health, NUR 570 FNP Clinical I, and NUR 308 Conceptual Foundations in Nursing. Being able to impact the next generation of nurses is why she chose teaching. Dr. Scott wants to be able to share her love of the profession and the knowledge she learned from personal experiences with students. She loves to see students blossom and gain confidence in their nursing skills. Each student she encounters will one day impact the life of a patient. Dr. Scott is happy to know she played a role in their journey to becoming a great nurse. She loves interacting with students on all levels.
Dr. Scott participates in many professional and community organizations. She is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Nurse Practitioner Alliance of Alabama, the West Alabama Nurse Practitioners Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Dr. Scott's clinical and research interests include decreasing health disparities in disadvantaged populations.
Dr. Scott dedicates one day per week to providing primary health care for patients at Maude Whatley Health Center as a family nurse practitioner. Whatley Health Services, Inc. is a private, non-profit, community health center whose mission is to provide primary health care services to the medically underserved residents of West Alabama. Headquartered in West Tuscaloosa, the organization utilizes public and private funds to meet the challenges of a dynamic society.
Education and Experience
Dr. Scott received her BSN from the Univeristy of Alabama in 2005 and her MSN with a family nurse practitioner concentration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2011. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama in 2019.
Dr. Scott has extensive experience in critical care and emergency room nursing. She has practiced as a family nurse practitioner specializing in pediatrics, veteran's care, and primary care throughout the years.
